A SMELLY problem has developed alongside State Highway 2 by the weigh bridge at Dunlop Road.

Farmer Ian Connor said one of his workers spotted the problem.

He went to check and then called the Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s pollution hotline.

Mr Connor said sewage from a pipe that ran on the seaward side was bubbling up into the terrain, polluting the nearby creek.

“It’s the second time this has happened,” he said.

Mr Connor flagged down a passing Opotiki District Council staff member in a truck, who then had alerted his superiors.

More council staff trucks were arriving as the Opotiki News left the smelly scene.
