CAREFUL manoeuvring is required to ease the power pole to the ground. OS0184-05

SECTIONS of St John and King streets are receiving a facelift this week as power lines are moved underground.

The traditional old power lines are being removed and new streetlights are being installed by contractors.

Horizon Networks operations manager Shane Piaray said underground cables were connected during the Transpower scheduled power cut on Sunday.

“We are moving the power supply underground and staff have been busy stripping out the old equipment this week,” he said.

“We’re removing the overhead lines and also installing new streetlight poles for NZTA.”
