MITRE 10 garden evenings held in Opotiki and Whakatane have raised more than $1000 for Hospice Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Wayne Fowler, who owns both stores, said the garden evenings had also featured sausage sizzles that supported the Opotiki College Cadets and Whakatane’s Trident High School hockey team.

“More than 200 people, with about 100 at each event, attended,” he said.

“It’s an annual event for the stores.”

The garden evening at the Opotiki store was held on October 31 and the Whakatane evening on November 14.

Spot prizes and give-aways, hands-on experiences, including pot painting and planting hanging baskets, treasure hunts, drilling competitions and in-store demonstrations, kept visitors busy.
