AUTHOR Marion Day will be making a special guest appearance at Paper Plus this evening with her latest book, Passion – Living, Feasting and Writing deep in the Marlborough Sounds.
The book, released nationwide in October, gives insight into Ms Day’s life in the South Island, and her roots here in Opotiki.
“My roots are still in Opotiki, where it all began,” Ms Day said.
In the book’s synopsis, Passion is described as a “social history book, where the reader is drawn into Marion’s own passions, how she breathes and what she does in order to reside happily and with freedom in a remote place of considerable natural significance”.
Ms Day has written across different genres in the past, including children’s books, with her latest work a biographical piece.
Broken into seven parts, Passion covers stories from the past, the land, the sea, the sky, the mountains, the garden and lastly the heart.
Ms Day said she first began writing about 12 years ago, while farming in the Eastern Bay.
“After a full day of hard physical work, I decided instead of watching TV in the evenings, I would write short stories for fun,” she said.
Now, 14 books later with another on the horizon, Ms Day’s latest book features 375 photographs, 52 recipes, diary entries, anecdotes and 20 short stories and poems.
Copies will be available from Paper Plus this evening, as well as online at marionday.nz.
