GRANDPARENTS came from far and wide for Opotiki Saint Joseph’s Catholic School’s grandparents’ day on Tuesday.

Principal Raewyn Clark said she knew of grandparents coming from Auckland and Wellington for the annual
celebration.

“I think there were even some grandparents from Australia,” she said.

With an estimated 250 to 300 grandparents in attendance, Ms Clark said the school always welcomed a “good crowd” for the event.

“I thought there was a wonderful spirit on the day, and the weather held off,” she said.

Over the course of the day, Ms Clark said grandparents were treated to Mass and a meal, followed by a series of performances put on by the students.

“There’s music, plays, skits, it’s a variety concert,” she said.

Finally, grandparents have a look around the schools’ classrooms, getting hands on with students to see what they have been learning over the year.

“It’s a full day,” Ms Clark said.
