VERBAL warriors are gearing up to do battle in Opotiki next week.

Ashbrook School principal Richard Mitai said the Opotiki District School English Speech Competition and the District Manu Korero for Primary Schools would both be hosted at his school next week.

The English component of the competition takes place on Tuesday, June 11 and the Maori component will be held on Thursday, June 13.

On Tuesday, the English entries will be confirmed at 9.15am for a 9.30am start.

A powhiri will be held at 9.30am on Thursday, with final names confirmation for the te reo Maori component taking place at 10am.

“Entries to the competitions will need to be completed by Friday, June 7,” Mr Mitai said.

“Usually all schools will have reported in by then.”

He encouraged students to send in their entries now.
