OPOTIKI College Cadet Unit’s Captain Lorraine Lawson-Barrett spent the weekend at the Waiouru Military Camp upskilling herself.

“The amazing weekend was run by New Zealand Central Cadet Forces and the Territorial Reserves 5/7, focusing on light infantry-based skills that have been implemented into our training programme,” she said.

“For me it was a chance to refresh and upskill my own training, and to be able to bring quality training opportunities to our cadets here in Opotiki with a focus on career pathways into the armed services.”

Skills worked on during the Light Infantry Course included hand signals, concealment and camouflage, patrols, sentry duties, and observation in open and closed country.
