Young gymnasts shine

The Step 2s shone in the competition, with the team of Zoe Giles, Lucy Carter and Bailey Law placing second overall after some top individual results.

Zoe also placed second overall for the Step 2 overs after earning second place on the vault, beam and floor, and a third place on the bar.

Lucy placed second equal on the floor and was fifth overall, while Brianna was third on the vault.

Also competing in the Step 2s overs division were Chloe Sparrow, Brianna Knowles, Sophie Spod, Olivia Allison, Addie Tetze and Ashlee Jennings, with most of the athletes getting their first pass marks (a total score of over 50).

Whakatane also had six Step 1s competing for their first time, Oshanna Surman, Marino Amoroa-Spence, Chloe Hogg, Miley Whitley, Tara Petersen and Khloe Newport.

Oshanna placed second on vault, and beam and was fifth overall in the Overs division. The team of Marino, Chloe Hogg and Miley placed third overall.

In the Step 3s, Zoe Flowerday, Kamea Aldridge, Tayah Prince and Emma Newport also earned some good results. Zoe and Kamea got their first pass marks and all earned personal bests.

In the Step 4s, Kayla Forsyth earned a personal best on beam and Alexandra Kay had some good results in her first competition at this level.

Coach Jordan Biggs was pleased with his gymnasts’ results.

“The girls who had their first ever competition did incredibly well and those who were competing in their second competition of the season managed to achieve personal bests as well, so we are off to a good start.”
