Youth voice – Hospital halls

MY name is Nate Smyth and I have a passion for music.

I love writing, recording and performing songs. Over the past few years I have begun to develop my skill set as a musician by learning guitar, piano and training my voice.

In October of 2015, my Grandad Roger Sawyer passed away. His passing had a big impact on me and my family, it was so hard to see him fall.

He loved music too, so when I began writing songs, I wrote one for him called Hospital Halls as a way to honour him and to express how I feel.

Hospital Halls

It’s been two years, but I still feel this way.
We watched a good man fall, now we’re the ones in pain.
You were another victim that the devil enslaved.
Now, I find myself on my knees before this stone engraved in your name.

I know you’re in a better place,
But I often find myself thinking back to when we sang Amazing Grace for you, for you.

Hours and hours of staring at the wall.
We prayed and prayed but nothing changed at all.
Now we’re left here in the pain,
And I’m roaming these hospital halls.

This time has gone so slow, yet so quickly,
‘God, I wish time would just stop ticking’.
That’s what you said,
When you lay there in that bed.
You were right on the edge,
You were right on the edge.

I know you’re in a better place,
But I often find myself thinking back to when we sang Amazing Grace for you, for you.

Hours and hours of staring at the wall.
We prayed and prayed but nothing changed at all.
Now, we’re left here in the pain.
And I’m roaming these hospital halls.

Oh, I’ll go on.
Oh, I’ll fly.
I’ll make you proud.
I’ll fly, fly with the angel you are now.
Oh, I’ll go on.
I’ll make you proud.
Oh, I’ll leave this cursed ground.

Hours and hours of staring at the wall.
We prayed and prayed but nothing changed at all.
Now we’re left here in the pain,
And I’m roaming these hospital halls.
I’m roaming these hospital halls,
I’m roaming these hospital halls,
My heart’s roaming these hospital halls,
My heart’s trapped in these hospital halls.
