SPONSORSHIP from EastPack has enabled Opotiki St John to begin installing Automated External Defibrillators (AED) into the Opotiki community.

The first of these was installed last Thursday at Opotiki EastPack.

The Opotiki packhouse now has two AEDs onsite so staff have access to a defibrillator no matter where on the site they are working.

Over the past few months staff have undertaken training to learn how to use the device.

A further AED will be installed in the township as part of EastPack’s support and will be available for the whole community to use.

“EastPack’s support of Opotiki St John is benefiting the whole of the Opotiki community and we are proud to be involved with St John,” EastPack director Adrian Gault said.

St John said early intervention with CPR combined with defibrillation could more than double someone’s chances of surviving a cardiac arrest, and access to AEDs in the community was a major focus for the organisation as it worked to improve outcomes for New Zealanders.
