THE Black Ferns Sevens team will headline a new invitational tournament at Pukekohe this weekend to gel the team before the World Series resumes.
Eastern Bay’s Stacey Waaka and her Black Ferns Sevens team-mates will put the boots back on and take to the field for an international invitational tournament to give the team game time before the world series resumes in Japan next month.
The invitational tournament will comprise China, Thailand, a Japanese club team and the Black Ferns Sevens Development team.
With six weeks to go before they play in Japan, the tournament will give players much-needed game time and the opportunity to continue developing their squad.
On top of their training, in the break the Black Ferns Sevens team has been collecting New Zealand’s top sporting accolades with the Halberg team award and the Olympic committee’s Lonsdale Cup last week.
The All Blacks Sevens development team will play Tonga in a five-match series alongside the women’s tournament. Seven university teams will also compete in a tertiary tournament at the event.
The free family oriented event will be held at the Navigation Homes Stadium in Pukekohe, with games kicking off at 9.20am on Saturday.
