Sun, tide and wind in tune for kite flying

WEATHER conditions were perfect for painting the sky with kites at Ohope on Friday.

The Ohope Top 10 Holiday Park hosted its third annual Kite Day, attracting 100 people and 35 kites.

Park manager Mark Inman said the kites included ones that participants took along themselves and children’s kites made as part of a holiday park activity.

The numbers were slightly up on previous years.

“The weather conditions were ideal, the tide, wind and sun. It was a fantastic, great afternoon.

“There was about 500 people on the beach at the same time.”

Mr Inman said one of the kites was made by a park visitor who had his grandchildren colour in a box each before it flew during the kite day.

The Kite Day is one many annual activities the park hosts.

The annual Camp versus Chartered Club Golf Tournament takes place today and on Friday, the “battle of the parks” SNS versus Top 10 Family Bowls Night.

On January 20 and 21, the second annual Blokarting event will take place, when people can have a go at blokarting at the main beach access with BayStation blokarts.
