FOUR Whakatane swimmers have been selected to take part in a week-long development tour later this month.

Deshan Seneviratna, Timothy Klein, Cambell Julian and Marley Orr are part of the Central Swimming Aquaknights Tri Series Development Tour in Taranaki, starting on December 15.

The tri series team consists of 24 male and 24 female swimmers aged 13 to 15 chosen from across the Bay of Plenty, Waikato, Taranaki and Hawkes Bay region.

The team will travel, stay and race together for the week and the tour involves five days of activities, with the 48 athletes divided into three teams that compete against each other over a series of mini swim meets.

This year’s tour is partly funded by the Taranaki Electricity Trust.

Meanwhile, 25 of Whakatane’s junior swimmers will compete at the Bay of Plenty

Swimming Championships in Rotorua this weekend.

The championships are open to swimmers aged 12 and under.
