ANDRE Tcherniacovski has successfully worked his way up to becoming a lifeguard. Supplied

BEFORE heading back to Brazil, 16-year-old Andre Tcherniacovski has become an officially certificated lifeguard.

Andre completed his practical and theory tests at Omanu Surf Lifesaving Club in Tauranga.
He completed the 400-metre swim in 6.54 minutes and took out 90 percent in the theory test, before completing his first aid test back at the clubhouse.

Extremely bad surf conditions meant Andre finished his final tests of the run/swim/run and tube rescue at Pilot Bay in the Mount.

Andre performed his first patrol in Opotiki at the start of the month.

Heading home soon, Andre has spent 10 months in Opotiki as an international exchange student.

Soon heading to South America as an exchange student, specifically Argentina, is Bryn Gault, who also became a certificated lifeguard recently.
